John Moore

Hi, I'm John Moore. I paint from a studio in Aura on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. My work is contemporary impressionist, mostly in oil and acrylic on canvas, linen, and birch panels.

I grew up in the vivid landscapes of Papua New Guinea and taught myself signwriting as a teenager. That grew into bespoke sign businesses in Lae (PNG), and then Jacksonville, Arkansas, where I spent fourteen years and built a business that still operates today. After Arkansas I came home to the Sunshine Coast and kept painting signs here for many more years.

A season came when I stepped away from the commercial sign industry to work in local and international missions. That path took me to California for a few years, into an artist enclave in Hollywood, where I first developed a deep interest in painting canvas wall art.

The pandemic rearranged so much of life and gave me time to revisit my art. I paint almost every day now and draw upon the ocean for inspiration. Most days include a surf or walk along one of our local beaches. Those beaches include Happy Valley, Wurtulla, Alex or Noosa. I train continuously, including studies with Queensland landscape artist Scott Christensen and Irish abstract artist Ciara Gilmore.

Every piece I paint is one of a kind. Prints of selected works are available on paper or canvas. If you'd like something painted for a specific space, get in touch. I take interesting commissions each year.
